The Game Politicians Play

The Game Politicians Play | KLEPTOCRACY-The-Game | Government Control Politics Sleuth Journal

The career political class is the quintessential predatory clique. If you remember and understand any aspect about politics, let it be the nature of the people who devote their lives to a band of thieves. Forget about the seeming dissimilarities in ideology, the political culture maintains a common conduct. Ignore the rhetoric that resembles opposing viewpoints, the club of controllers protects each other. And if you ever believed in heroes and are still waiting for a savior, your disappointment will eventually turn into despair. What sustains the process of government are the deception of its vice and the refusal of the public to admit that the game never changes.

The charlatans that are attracted to it become players in this adventure of egotism and are filled with enough vanity to pay off the federal debt. The sheer idea that a lifetime devoted to national service is a noble pursuit corrupts the body politic and perverts anyone who dreams of change, while yearning for public adoration.  Examine the results of the scam that grows out of the mindset that avows – we are from the government and we are here to help you . . .

Politicians who seek elected office are driven by the allure of power. Some may campaign on a platform of helping the people, while most scheme to grow the agencies and scope of the State. Those who have romantic dreams of reform in the beginning will mutate into guardians of the system that feeds the delusion that they make a difference. These fakes deceive themselves that good comes out of their legislation and that society improves with every program. They are frauds because their primary device is deceit. And they are cowards because they do not dare reveal their true motivations. The public would never understand, they have become irreplaceable!

What elected politician devotes their efforts to defending individual Liberty? Passing a federal law to impose compliance in order to free people is preposterous. But that is the principal focus of legislation. The government will compel liberation under the rules that suit the political class. The reasoning that the top down knows best permeates the execution of control. When a dubious authority is enacted to empower a bureaucracy, the plan of mutual dependence is fostered. Symbiosis produces the appearance of periodic friction, but the reciprocity that is shared between the lawmaker and the bureaucrat is rooted in correspondent interest.

This is the reason why cover-ups become the norm. Factions that naturally vie for dominance will close ranks, when the vile organism is threatened. The common bond of alliance supersedes any internal differences. The decisive criminal syndicate is the ultimate gravy train. Coerced and binding taxes, which steal from the wealth creators and enhance the efficacy of the thieves, who demand even more tribute, is the real constitution that defines the STATE. Enforcement and regulation is the aim of the bureaucrat as is the source of their own influence. Don’t be hoodwinked into thinking there is a difference between the elected politician and the commissar.

Again just examine the record! Retirement from office or losing an election is rewarded with capacious pensions. Those skillful in developing their nefarious talents or fortuitous in gathering derogatory dirt will extort their usefulness into a cabinet position. For those not so gifted, lobbying additional legislation, bribing the regulator or a simple cajole for a chum – becomes the full time occupation for the former office holder. Once an addictive infatuation, a venture into Washington DC turns into an enduring Beltway obsession, and a permanent sentence of enslavement for the people.

Is this the kind of public service that benefits the citizen? This formula for organizing society and maintaining basic civic order is a ruse. The politician as a professional is ludicrous. A continual career on the public dole is incompatible with good government. A shift from congressman to a lobbyist doesn’t return one to the private sector, but just perpetrates and promotes the pernicious union of State/Capitalism. If you think this is a harsh assessment, explain how so many politicians and bureaucrats become rich while on the public payroll? Do you really think that their accumulation of financial rewards is confined to their salaries? Speaking gigs are payola and book deals are payoffs. Appointments to NGO’s – non government organizations – think tanks and quasi public institutions are the charity of easy compensation for serving the elite culture.

This revolving door always slams shut in our faces, but most of the public is oblivious to the sting. They are more consumed with the perceived gains they can extract from the system. This attitude of apathy in accountability for the entire political class is one of the main causes of the nation’s demise. We all know that politicians get away with murder, so why sweat the small stuff! As long as I get my government check, those free services and expanded programs isn’t that the purpose of the general welfare? So goes the rationale of the masses, following the exact plan of the political class.

This game has no amusement value. Its only entertainment is for the enjoyment of the career politician. Their pleasure should not be our anguish. Their pastime need not be our pain. Our future should be one that promotes hope. This dreadful game needs to end. A proper ethos of true public service must be restored in order to achieve a national purpose – the Liberty of each individual citizen . . .

People constantly speak of “the government” doing this or that, as they might speak of God doing it. But the government is really nothing but a group of men, and usually they are very inferior men. They may have some better man working for them, but they themselves are seldom worthy of any respect. – H.L. Mencken

‘When I say cut taxes, I don’t mean fiddle with the code. I mean abolish the income tax and the IRS, and replace them with nothing’

‘When I say cut taxes, I don’t mean fiddle with the code. I mean abolish the income tax and the IRS, and replace them with nothing’ | Ron-Paul-Quote-Facebook | Government IRS Ron Paul Sleuth Journal Special Interests

The quote in the headline comes from Ron Paul, and it should be the goal of every conservative lawmaker in the entire country.  When professional politicians tell you that they are in favor of reforming the tax code or reducing taxes a little bit, essentially what they are telling you is that they are perfectly fine with the status quo.  They may want to tweak things slightly, but in general they are content with big taxes, big spending and big government.  I spent an entire year getting a Master of Laws in Taxation at the University of Florida Law School, and in my opinion the best thing that Congress could do to the tax code would be to run it through a shredder and put it in a dumpster.  As I noted the other day, the tax code is now more than four million words long and it takes Americans about six billion dollars a year to comply with it.  Those that believe that they are offering the American people a “solution” by proposing to tinker with this abominable mess are just fooling themselves.

The only long-term solution that is going to work is to get rid of the entire steaming pile of garbage.  Ron Paul understood this, and we would be very wise to take his advice.  The following is the full version of the quote from the headline above…

“By the way, when I say cut taxes, I don’t mean fiddle with the code. I mean abolish the income tax and the IRS, and replace them with nothing.”

If I run for Congress, and I am very strongly leaning in that direction, this is what my position on taxes is going to be.

Of course we are going to have to dramatically change the composition of the House and the Senate in order to get this done, so in the short-term we may have to focus on reducing tax rates and the size of the tax code by as much as possible.

But ultimately, the goal will be to abolish the tax code and the IRS altogether.

We have become so accustomed to an income tax that many of us couldn’t possibly imagine a society without one.  But today there are seven states that do not have one, and that includes very big states such as Texas and Florida.  And from 1872 to 1913, there was no federal income tax.  When a federal income tax was finally reinstituted in 1913, the rates were extremely low.  The following comes from Politifact

The 1913 law imposed a tax of 1 percent on income up to $20,000, for both individual and joint filers. However, exemptions from the tax — the first $3,000 of income for individuals and the first $4,000 for joint filers — meant “virtually all middle-class Americans” were excused from paying, according to W. Elliot Brownlee’s book, Federal Taxation in America. The law also put in place a graduated surtax on incomes above $20,000; the highest rate paid, 7 percent, applied to Americans making more than $500,000 (about $11.4 million in 2011 dollars).

So how did things go for our country during the four decades when there was no federal income tax?

Well, if you regularly follow my work you already know the answer to that question.

That period of time just happened to be the best period of economic growth in U.S. history.

Oh, but we wouldn’t want to change from the way things work today, would we?  After all, the U.S. economy has grown at a blistering average yearly rate of just 1.33 percent over the past decade, and we are actually behind that pace so far in 2017.

If you want a no growth economy and a steadily shrinking middle class, then our current system is perfect for you.

But I believe that we can do so much better.

So how are we going to fund the federal government if we eliminate the income tax?

Well, the truth is that taxing individual incomes accounts for only 46.2 percent of all federal revenue.  The federal government has lots of other ways that it raises money, but of course we wouldn’t be able to keep the massively bloated federal bureaucracy that we have today.  We would need to reduce the size and scope of the federal government to an appropriate constitutional level, and of course most politicians on the left would resist this greatly.

There are some federal agencies and programs that we could completely eliminate altogether.  If it was up to me, the EPA, the Department of Education and the BATFE would be good places to start.  Any essential functions that they are currently performing could easily be absorbed by other agencies.

There are very few politicians in our entire country that will still talk like this, because our leaders have taken us so far down the road toward “a social state” that most Americans don’t even know what “limited government” looks like anymore.

I would like to share with you an old newspaper clipping that was posted to Facebook by Get Involved, You Live Here

‘When I say cut taxes, I don’t mean fiddle with the code. I mean abolish the income tax and the IRS, and replace them with nothing’ | Beware-The-Useful-Idiots-Facebook-460x475 | Government IRS Ron Paul Sleuth Journal Special Interests

Over the past several decades, the left has made a tremendous amount of progress toward achieving the goals that Saul Alinsky originally outlined in Rules for Radicals.  Obamacare was a giant step toward federal control over our healthcare system, poverty is exploding as the middle class shrinks, we are nearly 20 trillion dollars in debt, our public schools have become left-wing indoctrination centers, and God has been pushed out of almost every corner of public life.

We should be very thankful that we got Donald Trump instead of Hillary Clinton, but many radical leftists consider Trump to simply be a bump in the road on the way to completely eradicating our way of life.

They want to criminalize what we believe by making it “hate speech”, they want to steal the minds of the next generation by dominating our system of education, and they want to use government institutions and the legal system as tools to completely reshape society in their image.

The only way that we are going to defeat this tyranny is if we stand up and fight for our country, and that is precisely what we are going to do.

10 Tools Needed By Globalists In Final Run At One World Government

10 Tools Needed By Globalists In Final Run At One World Government | new-world-order | Globalism Government Government Corruption New World Order Propaganda Sleuth Journal

We all know to build a house you need to have the right tools. Not having the right tools makes the difference between success and failure. So then what tools might the globalists be using right now to advance their plans for a one world government, the so called new world order and global enslavement?

Understanding the necessary tools the controllers need and are currently using to meet their goals might allow us to figure out where we should focus our energy, and it may show us what things we might be able to do to slow down, derail or even stop their new world order plans all together.

So here are ten powerful tools being used by the controllers, ten tools without which there will be no new world order.

1- Global warming/Climate change psyop

It is becoming abundantly clear. No global warming means no new world order, no Agenda 21, no global carbon tax, no usurping of local and state rights in favor of global agendas, no domination over the individual and no micromanaging of the individual’s energy expenditure for the sake of the planet and a “sustainable” earth. Few topics are as important to the new world order plans as the global warming hoax/climate change religion. For this reason the global warming hoax has become completely immune to logic, science, reason and truth and instead marches right along from ignoring of the facts, to name calling to direct control of climate legislation, all while the paid politicians insist the science is “settled”. No one should be surprised by the locked-in ignorant and stubborn mindset of this movement. This was a big issue to the Eugenics control freaks many decades ago. They put a lot of work into ensuring long term success and we are now seeing the results of this long term effort.

2- Government “scientific consensus”

Without government pseudo-science, the globalists recent plans would have fallen apart long ago. Let’s face it, almost every day now we’re hearing about a “study” that proves yet another government narrative. These coincidences happen because government “scientists” are not interested in the true results and scientific correlations. Truth does not make money, in fact its a money loser. Conclusions that support government agendas, on the other hand, do make a lot of money. For this reason science has been hijacked by government for political agendas.

In place right now are numerous prominent “scientific” journals all waiting to publish whatever studies support the new world order agenda. The sooner people realize that the science has been taken over, the sooner this important new world order tool can be taken away from them. Without this powerful weapon, the globalists would lose their ability to push all the medical, food related, environmental and chemical related “studies” on the masses. This would immediately pose a threat to large pharmaceutical companies, vaccine makers and many other drug-related companies.

3- Geoengineering and chemtrails spraying

This is a topic increasingly inseparable from the climate change-global warming fraud. Geoengineering is very real and a lot of things are at stake if the globalists had to give this issue up. For this reason don’t expect geoengineering of the skies to end any time soon and they won’t admit they’re doing it until they’ve secured a good excuse for doing it. That excuse will be “global warming”.

They need these programs fully running to get their new world order. The plans are central to controlling the weather, manipulating the environment for political and financial gain and engineering drought to control food and water supplies and thus control populations among other reasons.

The globalist controllers are saving geoengineering so they can roll it out as the “solution” to global warming. This very likely was the plan all along. The process goes something like this – Problem: Global warming- Reaction: use emotional stimulators like the polar bears, ice capsule melting, human extinction stories- Solution: Spray the planet with metal particles every day.

4- ISIS psyop

The a previous Mosul-style “takeover” of Ramadi in Iraq by ISIS is another example of how ISIS, who gets exclusive image-glorifying public relations from the U.S. mainstream media is portrayed as an invisible, lucky, superior fighting force who can only be stopped using tactics that move the PNAC plans forward.

In a TV appearance endorsing the ISIS psyop, CIA front mouthpiece Colonel Anthony Shaffer stuttered his way through an interview explaining exactly how ISIS conveniently took over Ramadi with striking coincidence due to “sand storm” issues. He also then explains how ISIS is now crawling all over Afghanistan and needs to be stopped there too. Let’s see- Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, isn’t it convenient how ISIS only shows up in PNAC approved countries where the U.S. needs to expand their occupation and/or lost influence? Shaffer also rambles on telling you what ISIS is thinking, detailing their victories (problem, reaction) then telling us what the “solution” is with selecting WHO gets to fight ISIS, that being ONLY the Kurds. Shaffer declares that Iraq and the Iraqi army is “gone”. The idea of having a sovereign official Army (whether Iraqi, Iranian or any other) seems to be a big threat to the globalist plans.

Let’s not forget the global ISIS super fighting machine was said to be in Mexico and showing up in Texas and California in information gathered via “chatter”. This is just another reminder of the super human powers ISIS has, just in case anyone has forgotten.

Fact is that ISIS is the perfect tool to advance literally every single component of the new world order plans. They are a huge ace in the hole for the globalists to be used throughout the Middle East and domestically with the help of Intelligence-Mainstream media coordinated reports to keep the domestic threat of terror alive in the minds of the masses, thus justifying the police state and more surveillance and tyranny, all the while CIA’s and Mossad’s ISIS cruise on right along helping nail down the PNAC plans for the Zionists and Western U.S. NATO alliance.

5- Secret global trade agreements

All global trade agreements are quietly looming in the background as critical components of the new world order. The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement for one (and other similar agreements) are all top secret global corporate agreements that transcend and undermine sovereign governments and impose their will on the individual and they are powerful tools for the new world order plans. Is anyone not seeing this? When it’s all said and done the controllers wish to forcefully impose secret business and government agreements on the “useless eaters” and once and for all throw the Constitution and national sovereignty in the trash, where they feel it belongs. They’ve been working on this for some time and they will continue hammering away at this until it happens. Like the constantly morphing anti-internet freedom legislation (SOPA and CISPA) TPP will, if necessary, reappear and reshape itself in many ways until they can find a way of ramming it into legislation. The other thing about these trade agreements is that they will relate to internet censorship and many other issues.

6- Debt based dollar fraud

Another huge ongoing fraud, critical to the one world government enslavement system, is the money system itself. Think of how quickly the globalist plans would fall apart if everyone realized how money works. Most people have no idea that the U.S. dollar is nothing more than an IOU. They have no idea how the Federal Reserve came into being and they have no clue that the Federal Reserve is a private corporation with no authority whatsoever to print money on behalf of the United States government. The entire debt based dollar system is based on lies, fraud, and deceit. Due to this hidden knowledge about money, people feel threatened when they begin to research it or call it out for what it is- possibly the greatest fraud perpetrated on the American people.

7- Lobbyist to law cycle

Everyone should be aware of how money from large corporations and individuals goes to paying lobbyists who then make sure the politicians go along with the wishes of the person (who is funding the lobbyists). This simple cycle of money corruption speaks for itself and should be enough to wake up Americans to say no, once and for all, to political corruption and start taking back their voices. This lobbyist to law cycle not only ensures that the laws that get passed are laws representing the wishes of the lobbyists, but even more importantly it ensures that the average American has no voice whatsoever. Without this important corrupt cycle in place, too many morally sound and justified laws representing the will of the people would get through. Then, before you know it, the globalist new world order plans would begin to burn out by necessity. For this reason the lobbyist to law cycle remains a key component for achieving the new world order plans.

8- Left-Right paradigm

The ongoing Left-Right paradigm is another quiet ace in the hole. It’s the large part of the script on which the globalists success depends on. That’s right, voter ignorance is actually driving the new world order plans. Millions of Americans still follow the bought out political stooges whose loyalties are to the companies putting money in their pocket. Sadly millions of Americans did not learn their lesson from the Bush and Obama years, which fit each other perfectly. Despite the clear continuity of lies, war expansion, false flags, and loss of liberties between the last two criminal administrations, it’s difficult to imagine that anyone actually believes there is a difference between left and right, Democrats and Republicans. Without the ability of the control system to maintain the illusion of choice between two parties which serve the exact same master, the new world order control plans would fall apart overnight.

9- CIA’s mainstream media

Information is everything. No CIA controlled mainstream media means no support of any wars by Americans. No one would believe any false flags, and all political stories would fall on deaf ears. Human consciousness would thrive. A life without mainstream media would warrant a topic of its own. Suffice it to say, CIA’s mainstream media is potentially the lifeline of the entire new world order and future control of all humanity. It is the very matrix by which the globalists exert their influence, deception and control over humanity. It is the radio signal feeding your brain the next episode of mind control, the next psyop, the next lie. The history of media and its use as a mind control tool is well established and for that reason mainstream mass media is another must have tool for the advancement of the globalist new world order plans. Unfortunately for them, less and less people today are watching TV so they are being forced to keep up with the times by broadening their reach with other technologies.

10- Entertainment distraction

Finally, none of the above would ever come to pass were it not for the forever valuable, forever reliable (if you are the globalist) entertainment distraction. That’s right, if you remove entertainment the control system would be overwhelmed with opposition. Too many people would be awakened- Acts of kindness not seen on TV might abound. People might actually have enough time to research things, to care, to educate themselves. The globalists have stated that a well educated critical thinking public is a threat to their plans. This last super important tool ensures that everything goes as planned, for now.

Solutions

Let’s make a mental note of these critically important tools without which there will be no new world order. Thankfully all of this information is known to many who are awakened. This information is spreading and when enough people get together and act, the game will be over for the globalists. Watch the news stories every day and see how they are using and feeding into these 10 tools every day. That’s because they need these tools for survival. That’s right. To the globalist controllers, these 10 tools are a matter of life and death. So let’s keep pushing to expose these critical issues because to truth seekers stopping these globalist tools is also a matter of life and death.

Expanded Anti-Trump Witch-Hunt

Expanded Anti-Trump Witch-Hunt | donald-trump1 | Government Trump

(image: Drew Angerer/Getty Images)

Sacked former FBI director Comey said he (unethically and maybe illegally) leaked information about his private conversations with Trump so a special prosecutor would be appointed to investigate possible ties between his team and Russia – besides what Congress does separately.

Special counsel (former FBI director) Robert Mueller expanded the investigation, looking into whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice.

After months of FBI investigations, Comey, in congressional testimony, said no evidence suggests it – telling Trump privately he wasn’t under investigation.

Now he is, Mueller apparently part of the witch-hunt coup d’etat plot to remove him from office.

Law Professor Jonathan Turley explained what’s “most notable” about what’s going on isn’t investigating possible obstruction of justice.

It’s leaks from Comey and “high-ranking members of Trump’s administration.”

DNI Dan Coats, NSA head Mike Rogers, and his former deputy Richard Ledgett agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s team as part of his investigation.

Leaks are facilitating the anti-Trump witch-hunt. Turley said it’s “alarming if the special counsel or his staff are engaging in their own self-service leaks.”

Spokesman for Trump’s lawyer Marc Kasowitz said “(t)he FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal” – indisputably true on the first two points, judicial proceedings to rule on the latter if things go this far.

Turley advises White House “strategic thinking rather than simple tactical moves.” Mueller is likely to get answers he seeks from administration officials.

If Trump has nothing to hide, likely based on nothing so far suggesting otherwise, administration strategy should feature full cooperation and forthrightness with Mueller.

Whatever comes out in his investigation, “the White House should be the vehicle for the disclosure,” Turley stressed.

While some information revealed might be negative, “the waving of privilege vis-a-vis Congress would undermine claims of obstruction” – Trump’s top priority to combat efforts to remove him from office.

Mueller will likely get whatever information he seeks. It’s in Trump’s interest to disclose it voluntarily. Otherwise it appears he has something to hide, pressuring him more than already.

A Final Comment

On June 13,  CNN reported three members of Mueller’s legal team donated to Democrats, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records, saying:

“More than half of the more than $56,000 came from just one lawyer, and more than half of it was donated before the 2016 election, but two of the lawyers gave the maximum $2,700 donation to Hillary Clinton last year.”

Because of these donations, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tweeted “Republicans are delusional if they think the special counsel is going to be fair.”

“Look who (Mueller) is hiring. Check FEC reports. Time to rethink.”

A Mueller spokesman declined to comment on the disclosure, a legitimate cause for concern by Trump and his legal team.

Democrats Are Already Using The Shooting Of Steve Scalise To Call For More Gun Control

Democrats Are Already Using The Shooting Of Steve Scalise To Call For More Gun Control | Gun-Statue | Civil Rights Government Government Control Gun Control Sleuth Journal Special Interests

The left never lets a good crisis go to waste. Within hours of the shooting of U.S. Representative Steve Scalise and other Republicans at a baseball field in Virginia, top Democrats were already calling for more gun control. Of course the shooter, 66-year-old James Hodgkinson, is from a state that already has some of the toughest gun laws in the entire nation. And the largest city in Illinois, Chicago, is plagued by rampant gun violence on a daily basis. Alternatively, crime rates tend to be very low where rates of gun ownership are very high. Up here in north Idaho, anyone that would dare to break into homes at night would have a very, very short criminal career. Gun owners are the number one crime deterrent, but liberals still don’t understand this.

Every time an Islamic terrorist or a crazed leftist starts shooting people, the left immediately pounces on it as an excuse to start promoting gun control again. For example, just consider what Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe had to say just hours after the shooting

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) advocated for stricter gun laws on Thursday after Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and several others were shot on a baseball field in the Washington suburb of Alexandria, Va.

“I think we need to do more to protect all of our citizens,” McAuliffe said at a press conference. “I have long advocated — this is not what today is about — but there are too many guns on the streets. We lose 93 million Americans a day to gun violence. I have long talked about this. Background checks and shutting down gun show loopholes, and that’s not for today’s discussion, but it’s not just about politicians. We worry about this every day for all of our citizens.”

Of course this is complete nonsense, but the truly frightening thing about this is that McAuliffe is very, very seriously thinking of running for president. In fact, from what I hear it is a near certainty that “Bill Clinton’s best friend” will run in 2020 if Hillary Clinton does not.

If many liberals had their way, even the police would be disarmed. But if the Capitol Hill police at that baseball field had not been armed on Wednesday, there would have been nobody to stop James Hodgkinson from killing one member of Congress after another

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., described the chaotic scene to Fox News: “We were like sitting ducks.”

“Without the Capitol Hill police it would have been a massacre,” Paul said, calling the scene “sort of a killing field.”

In fact, Senator Paul believes that “nobody would have survived” if the Capitol Hill Police had not been there to shoot back…

“I can tell you, that I think with absolute certainty, nobody would have survived without the Capitol Hill Police. They saved everybody’s life. Incredibly brave and deserve everyone’s praise, because, with this guy, who knows what his — how heavily armed he was, but nobody else had a weapon. So, he was just killing everyone — he would have. … They deserve our gratitude for saving — it would have been a massacre without them.”

It could have easily been the worst tragedy in the history of the United States Congress. Even with such a quick response by the Capitol Hill Police, Representative Mo Brooks says that Hodgkinson still got off “50-100 shots”

“Behind third base, I see a rifle…I hear Steve Scalise over near 2nd base scream,” Brooks said. “…While all of this is going on, Steve Scalise our whip was lying on the ground near the second base position crawling into right field, leaving a trail of blood.”

Brooks said the gunman was using the dugout as cover and estimated the assailant got off 50-100 shots during the attack on the 15-25 people gathered at the field.

And of course this is far from an isolated incident. In an article earlier today, I noted the string of violent attacks on Republican members of Congress in recent months. The threats, violence and intimidation coming from the left are steadily getting worse, and I strongly believe that security for members of Congress needs to be greatly strengthened. In the past, we mainly had to be concerned about security for the President, the Vice-President and a handful of other really high profile targets, but now every single member of Congress is a potential target.

I also believe that all members of Congress should be allowed to be armed no matter where they travel. Alternatively, a Secret Service detail could be assigned to each one, but that would be quite expensive. What is clear is that the limited security that we have gotten away with in the past for members of Congress simply is not going to work any longer.

James Hodgkinson fully intended to kill every single Republican member of Congress on that baseball field. So if there is anyone out there that disagrees with me, I would ask you to carefully consider this eyewitness account from Representative Mike Bishop

As we were standing here this morning, a gunman walked up to the fence line and just began to shoot. I was standing at home plate and he was in the third base line. He had a rifle that was clearly meant for the job of taking people out, multiple casualties, and he had several rounds of magazines that he kept unloading and reloading it. Firing it.

The only reason—the only reason—why any of us walked out of this thing: By the grace of God, one of the folks here had a weapon to fire back and give us a moment to find cover. Because we were inside the backstop and if we didn’t have that cover by a brave person who stood up and took a shot themselves, we would not have gotten out of there and every one of us would have been hit. Every single one of us.

The bad guys are always going to be able to find weapons, and more gun control is never going to be the answer.

In this case, I am so very thankful for the guns that were at that baseball field, because they saved a lot of lives today.

America’s Forever War Strategy

America’s Forever War Strategy | american-flag-military-wars | Government War Propaganda

America is unique among history’s warrior states – prioritizing endless wars, not ending them to achieve a new era of peace and stability.

The notion is anathema to the nation’s military, industrial, and scoundrel media establishment. Wars are waged for power and profits, no other reasons.

All post-WW II US wars were and continue to be acts of naked aggression against nations threatening no one – raping and destroying them, the human cost incalculable, the villainy unprecedented.

Throughout its history, America has been perpetually at war at home and/or abroad, never a time of peace and stability – a shocking indictment of its abhorrent agenda, the nation a democracy in name only.

Its high crimes against humanity continue endlessly in multiple theaters, wars against other targeted nations to be launched at its discretion – unthinkable nuclear war the greatest risk to our survival.

In Tuesday testimony before Senate Armed Services Committee members, Defense Secretary James Mattis said America isn’t winning in Afghanistan – nor anywhere else he failed to explain.

He promised a new Afghan war strategy by mid-July. It’s no different from the old one. Here it is before announced:

Continue endless war. Get Congress to appropriate tens of billions more dollars for a lost cause. Claim slow and steady progress.

Later in the face of continued failure, promise another new course, much more money needed to pursue it.

Joint Chiefs Chairman General Joseph (“fighting Joe”) Dunford lied to Senate Armed Services Committee members, claiming America’s “competitive advantage is eroding…limiting our ability to project power.”

US military spending exceeds what all other NATO members, Russia and China spend combined, with all categories included, including black budgets – more than $1.5 trillion annually, the so-called defense budget one part of it.

The Pentagon and related budgets should be sharply slashed, not increased, America’s empire of bases dismantled, a new era of peace declared – for the first time in US history, swords turned into plowshares.

A polar opposite agenda is pursued. Permanent war is longstanding US policy, bipartisan-supported out-of-control militarism – at the expense of vital homeland needs, social justice and a nation fit to live in, drowning in hubris and arrogance, along with contempt for democratic values and rule of law principles.

No nation caused more harm to more people over a longer duration. None more greatly threatens humanity’s survival.

Endless wars define US policy – waged against invented enemies because real ones don’t exist. The late Gore Vidal’s “Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace” explained how America became so reviled.

On America’s Middle East wars, he said “I don’t see us winning. We have made enemies of one billion Muslims.”

He explained America is “rotting away at a funereal pace. We’ll have a military dictatorship pretty soon, on the basis that nobody else can hold everything together.”

Peace is a nonstarter. It’s always been this way, notably post-9/11. The vast majority of House and Senate members support America’s imperial war agenda – including self-styled progressive Bernie Sanders.

They glorify them, falsely portraying them as humanitarian intervention and democracy building, ignoring the appalling human toll – genocide by any standard.

If a way isn’t found to end America’s imperial agenda, it’ll end us.

We Want A Government So Small That We Can Barely See It

We Want A Government So Small That We Can Barely See It | Aerial-View-Of-Washington-Public-Domain-700x540 | Government Government Control

We need to fundamentally redefine the relationship between government and the people in this country.  Today, we have become so accustomed to big government that most of us can’t even imagine another way of doing things.  And I am not just talking about the federal government either.  Even in a red state like Idaho, the state government has become a sprawling bureaucracy that requires 3.5 billion dollars a year to keep going.  And all over the country many local governments are “supersized” as well.  But this isn’t the way that our Founding Fathers intended for things to work.  They intended to create a society where government is very limited and where liberty and freedom are maximized.

Back in 2015, U.S. Senator Rand Paul made headlines all over the country when he tweeted that he wanted “a government so small I can barely see it!”

In my opinion, we need 99 more senators that see things the exact same way.

The reason why we want the federal government to be so limited is because there is an inverse correlation between the size of government and the level of freedom and liberty that we are able to enjoy.  In other words, every time government gets bigger, we lose more freedom and liberty.  And when government becomes the center of virtually everything (like in North Korea), the result is nightmarish tyranny.

We have been trained to believe that government should be working to solve all of our problems, but the truth is that much of the time government is the problem.

Those that are constantly advocating big government solutions to everything are actually promoting an anti-liberty agenda.  If we can get people to start understanding this, it will result in an enormous political shift in this country.

We need to start having more conversations about the proper role of government in our society.  Government does have a role, but that role should be very limited.  I really like how Idaho State Representative Karey Hanks made this point just recently…

What is the “proper function” of government? It is debated on TV, social media and election campaigns. Many people don’t care much, as long as they have gas in the car, a paycheck, food to eat and a little spare time. Life is good! How many people actually take the time to vote in any given election?

Laws were established by our Founding Fathers to preserve freedom–not restrict it. They believed laws should be enacted only to protect against physical harm, theft and involuntary bondage. Government should not be a means of compelling citizens to perform acts of charity against their will—“redistribution of wealth” in current terminology.

“Redistribution of wealth” is one of my pet peeves.  The federal government should not be taking trillions of dollars away from some Americans and giving that money to other Americans.

But that is precisely what is happening, and if our Founding Fathers could see what is happening today they would be rolling over in their graves.

Of course the centerpiece of the system is the income tax.  In 1913, a very basic income tax was introduced and most Americans were taxed at a rate of only one percent.  But of course once the progressives get their feet in the door they are never satisfied, and so our tax system has just gotten bigger and more complicated with each passing year.

According to Forbes, Congress has made more than a change a day to the tax code since 2001, and at this point it is nearly four million words long…

How complicated? Since 2001, Congress has made nearly 5,000 changes to the Tax Code. That’s more than a change per day. The Tax Code is now about four million words, nearly as long as seven versions of War and Peace or the novel version of Les Miserables and just under four times the number of words in all of the Harry Potter books put together.

Americans spend approximately six billion hours complying with the tax code every year.

That breaks down to 8,758 lifetimes spent on taxes every 12 months.

How much better would our society be if the American people could spend all of that time on more productive matters?

If I run for Congress, and if I end up winning, one of my long-term goals will be to completely eliminate the income tax.  But we will need a lot more liberty-minded people to win seats in Congress in order for that to happen, and so I am encouraging as many as possible to consider running in 2018.

We also need to dramatically reduce the red tape that is absolutely killing entrepreneurs and small businesses all over the nation.

And it isn’t just the federal government that is doing this.  Sometimes it is state and local governments that are the worst offenders, and I want to share one example with you from right here in Idaho

Miranda Hale, Nadia Saakyan and Micalah Howard are three innovative women who launched a mobile makeup-application business that fits today’s busy lifestyles. The trio came up with an original idea: Bring the make-up studio to help brides feel just a little more beautiful on their special day, no matter the location.

Yet, senseless state regulations ruined the trio’s dream. Idaho rules don’t allow the three to apply makeup anywhere outside of a licensed and inspected beauty salon.

This regulation, and hundreds more like it, were not built for the modern economy. Outdated regulations stifle innovation and kill jobs.

This is the sort of thing that I would expect to see in California, but unfortunately it is happening right here in my state.

If we sit back and do nothing, then nothing is going to change.  The reason why we have so many rules and regulations is because control freaks tend to be greatly attracted to the world of politics.  And once they get into positions of power, they love to lord it over the rest of us and impose as many rules and regulations as they possibly can.

It is time for those of us that believe in constitutional values to rise up and take our country back.  It won’t be easy, but if we want this nation to have any sort of a future at all we have no choice but to act.

Best Government – Governs Least

Best Government - Governs Least | ThomasJefferson%E2%80%A6thatgovernmentisbestwhichgovernsleast. | Government Government Control Government Corruption Sleuth Journal Society

Once upon a time the Founding Fathers were considered to be the personification of the American Republic. Most notable among giants, was Thomas Jefferson. The significance of his authorship of the Declaration of Independence is heralded as the very essence of the purpose for fighting the revolution. Jump onward to the present era and examine the sentiment held by the populace. The seeming disconnect from the political thought of the 18th and 19th century to the attitudes in this 21st totalitarian collectivist mindset that dominates the culture, often resembles life on a different planet.

According to Monticell.org, the quintessential statement closely associated with Jefferson, “That government is best which governs least” is clarified.

“Although the ideas expressed in this quotation may be in line with Jefferson’s opinions to some extent, the exact phrasing is almost certainly not Jefferson’s.  However, this quotation has been associated with the ideological descendants of Jefferson’s Democratic-Republican party for a very long time, and this is likely why it ultimately came to be attributed to him.  Merrill Peterson even referred to the quotation as a “Jeffersonian maxim” in The Jefferson Image in the American Mind”.

It can be fairly accepted that this world view was commonly acknowledged as the norm for most Americans. During the formative years of nation building, the proper role of government was narrow in scope. At a minimum, the civic culture professed a need and desire to keep government intervention limited on all levels.

National Affairs proposes in the article, The Art of Limited Government a new standard.

“What guidelines could preserve Jefferson’s ethos while also recognizing that the world has changed in dramatic ways? A good place for conservatives to start might be Friedrich Hayek’s The Constitution of Liberty, in which he sanctioned two spheres of domestic activity as legitimately belonging to government: offering a minimal social safety net and providing limited correction for failures of the market. Neither of these two roles, Hayek believed, was inherently incompatible with economic freedom or the rule of law.”

In the same vein, Peter Coulson from Australia writes in the article, the best Government is that which governs least.

“This is the central premise of libertarian political theory and is designed for two main aims. Firstly it protects the rights and liberties from a government pursuing a course of action that requires coercion of the public to achieve its desired outcomes.

The second reason for this theory is the belief that government should “focus on its knitting”: providing a stable economic management framework, with robust and predictable rules within which the market can effectively operate to create wealth for its participants.”

The premise that official authorities operate on, the precept for the “Good of Society” has little in common with the actual conduct of government policy. In addition, the public has abandoned the quest for individual liberty in their pursuit for the good life at the expense of their neighbor.

Political Crumbs starts out with the statement: We’ve moved a long way since Locke’s minimal vision of government, then goes on to express the fantasy myth of achieving a “Good Society”.

“Indeed, we widely regard it as an urgent moral task of the government to guarantee a minimum quality of life for all of its citizens. Where to draw that “minimal” line is a matter of debate, but few would argue about clean drinking water, free firefighters, free hospitals, free sewage treatment plants, free schooling for children…all this is something the government of a rich state ought to, at the very least, guarantee its citizens.”

The absurdity that it is government’s role, or even its duty to provide FREE services, exemplifies the mental illness that underpins the general decay in societal attitudes and the lack of rational thought. Government is hardly free. The notion that social programs are a moral imperative, when government never produces any wealth or monetary value, by the very nature of its composition stands on the self-evident premise, that the state derives its cash flow from coercive confiscation under the penalty of punitive laws and regulations.

Even the notion that “so called” responsible citizens would not debate, much less rebuke the collectivist civic benefit of government fluoride poisoned water, mandated  taxable fire fighting fees and government school socialization indoctrination, or the death panels that provide their euthanasia care are all symptoms of deranged Utopian insanity. The real sewer treatment plant is the governmental apparatus that seeks to dominate every facet of individual life.

Absent in the state worship culture is any admission that the state has failed miserably under the tyranny of governmental imposition for well over the last century and a half. Material consumerism and socialist programs are no substitute for personal dignity and individual responsibility.

Quality of life is directly proportional with the degree of the absence of government intrusion in the lives of citizens. By this standard, we all live under the dictatorship of a system designed to dehumanize, impose dependency and demand ultimate deference to a despotic and authoritarian system.

Well prior to the inception of the country, the model of a direct form of democracy, embodied in the Town Hall Meeting provided for participatory community decision making. Author Frank M. Bryan of the book, Real Democracy: The New England Town Meeting and How It Works notes.

“Town meetings have suffered a loss in attendance over the years. Most of this decline can be attributed to increases in town size, which explains about 60% of the variance in attendance from town to town. But a decline in the number and variety of issues over which towns have control has deprived townspeople of the opportunity to make decisions that matter in their lives. That has hurt attendance dramatically.”

While rule by direct democracy certainly conflicts with our Republic representational form of Federalism, the tradition of local citizen’s involvement in local government is a mainstay for a free people. Yes, the size of the community directly marginalizes the effectiveness of a single person; however, the message of a lone voice often is more powerful than the goon squads of a police state. Of course, a moral citizenry is the indispensable ingredient necessary to stand up to tyranny.

As previously cited in the essay, The TUN – a true representative council provides the proper alternative to the current version of electoral office selections in the land of the timid. Read the details of this method of representation and accept the conclusion that “By applying the prudent principles of the TUN method, a real representative republic is possible. Consider a model that retains the current levels of government separations that exist today.”

Now for any form of government to justly administer and honor individual natural rights must be based upon the willful consent of responsible citizens. In today’s environment, the requirement that the people will discipline themselves is not exactly a widespread practice. Even if the multitude would accept the principle, very few have the internal strength to reject or shun the “FREE” cradle to grave government welfare society.

The leap from innately knowing that less government produces more freedom just does not motivate the captured masses from resisting all those social benefits from the “Free Lunch”.

In a report entitled, What Americans REALLY Think about Government, the conclusions sadly indicate how the public has sunk to the low view of their own obligations.

“Surveys also reveal that surprisingly large numbers of people believe that the government should take the lead and be responsible for dealing with a wide variety of social and economic problems. 71% of Americans believe that the government has an important or essential responsibility for seeing to it that anyone who wants a job can have one. 63% believe that the government has an important or essential responsibility to provide citizens with adequate housing; and 78% of us think that the government has an important or essential responsibility to provide citizens with good medical care. Similarly large majorities strongly support the notion that it is the responsibility of the public sector to “guarantee a quality public education,” “protect the environment,” and “ensure equal opportunity for everyone.”

Such attitudes are typical of those non-participates to the actual functions of governmental administration. Only job seekers, bureaucratic careerists, political aspirants or “PC” collectivists will ignore the true record of government incompetency, deliberate corruption and misguided expenditures that bloat budgets to the point of impoverishing the once prosperous Middle America.

The National Center for Constitutional Studies sums up the plight of the lost Republic with a quote from Alexis de Tocqueville. “Democracy in the United States will endure until those in power learn that they can perpetuate themselves through taxation.”

Dismissing the harm that irresponsible citizens have caused with their destructive demands for more government bennies, paid for by others or just pushed onto future generations, allows for the culture of State repression. The principles embodied in the TUN framework are a solution and remedy to the psychosis of Big Government.

“It is not true that that government is best which is best administered — it is a sophism invented by tyranny to quiet the inquisitive mind; a good administration is at best but a temporary palliative to a bad government, but it does not alter its nature.” –   William Penn

From OSS to CIA Ongoing Clash with Military Intelligence

From OSS to CIA Ongoing Clash with Military Intelligence | Truman-on-the-CIA | CIA Government Government Corruption Military Special Interests

For all those supporters of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s war, many admire the exploits of the OSS in Europe. While historians for the allied legions adopt the account that circumstances dictated the creation and use of the British, Special Operations Executive, which Churchill proclaimed, to ‘set Europe aflame’; the precedent left a heritage of intervention that few ever warned about the nature of counter-offensive missions. Gathering intelligence on adversaries is valid and even necessary to defend your country. However, to establish contingents of lethal assassins is a fundamental departure from intelligence procurement. During World War II the American version of clandestine operations put into motion a competing and dangerous rival to the traditional role of military intelligence.

This development is examined in The Evolution of the U.S. Intelligence Community.

“America’s entrance into World War II created an immediate need for intelligence to support the warfighter. While the Army and the Navy maintained their own intelligence capabilities, none were prepared to provide the kind of support needed. To bolster this effort, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was created in June 1942, under the recently established Joint Chiefs of Staff to succeed the Coordinator of Information. William Donovan remained in charge of the reorganized unit. In addition to assuming the analytical role of its predecessor, the OSS was chartered to carry out clandestine operations against the Axis powers on a worldwide scale. It was not, however, readily accepted by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), who remained skeptical of the value of OSS activities, and the new unit faced strong competition from the FBI and the Army’s intelligence organization.”

“Source Statement – Former Secretary of State Dean Rusk recalled the 1941 state of the U.S.’s intelligence effort in testimony before a Senate subcommittee: “When I was assigned to G-2 in 1941, well over a year after the war had started in Europe, I was asked to take charge of a new section that had been organized to cover everything from Afghanistan right through southern Asia, southeast Asia, Australia, and the Pacific. Because we had no intelligence organization that had been giving attention to that area up to that time, the materials available to me when I reported for duty consisted of a tourist handbook on India and Ceylon, a 1924 military attache’s report from London on the Indian Army, and a drawer full of clippings from the New York Times that had gathered since World War One. That was literally the resources of the G-2 on that vast part of the world a year after the war in Europe started.”

Since the resources and priories of the military were not focused on procuring accurate and worldwide reach to gather intelligence, it is understandable that the immediacy of wartime needs, FDR would want to by-pass the Army and Navy. Most know of the successful efforts of breaking the Japanese codes at the decryption center Station HYPO run by Capt. Joseph Rochefort, which proved so crucial at the battle of Midway. Such signal efforts became the stable of the NSA, which nominally is under the command authority of the United States Department of Defense. In accordance with Department of Defense Directive 5100.20, dated December 23, 1971, the Director of the NSA must always be a commissioned officer of the military services.

Contrast these functions with the post WWII establishment of the CIA.

“In 1946 President Harry S. Truman, recognizing the need for a coordinated postwar intelligence establishment, created by executive order a Central Intelligence Group and a National Intelligence Authority, both of which recruited key former members of the OSS. As in the days of the OSS, there were problems of distrust and rivalry between the new civilian agencies and the military intelligence services and the FBI.

In 1947 Congress passed the National Security Act, which created the National Security Council (NSC) and, under its direction, the CIA. Given extensive power to conduct foreign intelligence operations, the CIA was charged with advising the NSC on intelligence matters, correlating and evaluating the intelligence activities of other government agencies, and carrying out other intelligence activities as the NSC might require. Although it did not end rivalries with the military services and the FBI, the law established the CIA as the country’s preeminent intelligence service.”

This maturation that placed the CIA as the go to intelligence source has allowed the apocalyptic ontogeny of the shadow government. Now anyone, who scrutinize the actual involvements that the CIA has fostered, must readily acknowledge that collective intelligence has not been the primary function of The Agency.  A Timeline of CIA Atrocities by Steve Kangas provides a partial list of covert intrusions into the affairs of foreign nations.

Folks, these surreptitious operations require plausible deniability to protect the elitist “Skull and Bone” culture that masterminded the original purpose of this rogue fifth column. Yet the ultimate treason committed by these unaccountable traitors direct their lethal wares domestically. Violating their charter, the stench from any objective inquiry into CIA drug trafficking that has taken such a sever toll on our own citizens and their complicit involvement in the JFK assassination, are evidence that Langley’s machinery of subversion seeks to control the actual directions of the U.S. government.

No person foresees JFK Wished He Could Splinter The CIA ‘Into A Thousand Pieces And Scatter It Into The Winds’. Yet it could be possible to separate the functions the Central Intelligence Agency has historically persuaded. The clear line breached stems from allowing the CIA to conduct their own hidden wars. While the military has their own sordid record of failed and misguided policy endeavors, the waging of military conflicts should never be place under the auspices of civilian mercenaries.

From the CIA’s own site, the First CIA-Military Command Relationship Agreement.

“After CIA’s founding in September 1947, the National Security Council (NSC) gave the Agency responsibility for conducting covert action, clandestine collection, and paramilitary activities “in times of peace.” CIA’s covert capabilities included propaganda and economic warfare, sabotage, demolition and evacuation measures, and subversion against hostile states through assistance to underground resistance movements, guerrillas, and liberation groups.

The NSC specifically stated that “Such operations shall not include armed conflict by recognized military forces … or cover and deception for military operations.” Although the NSC ordered CIA to place its paramilitary activities under theater commanders in combat areas, it made no mention of subordinating the Agency to the JCS in wartime as had been done with the OSS during World War II. Nor did the NSC and JCS resolve the question of when and how a “theater of war” would be formally designated for purposes of operational control.”

The CIA has conducted its own interventionism in foreign operations that are well beyond the authority of Congress. Be that as it may, in an age where Congress has abdicated its power to declare war; the unbridled Agency is an authoritarian syndicate of subterfuge and betrayal.

The military needs to be in command of any foreign adventurism. As lacking in traditional American foreign policy as this standard violates, armed services academy trained officers are a far better chain of command structure than careerist bureaucrats or power hungry politicians.

As disturbing as these circumstances are, the trend is even worse. ‘We Can’t Spy … If We Can’t Buy!’: The Privatization of Intelligence and the Limits of Outsourcing ‘Inherently Governmental Functions’ adds another layer of corruption that stems from handing out security clearances as bags of candy on Halloween.

“Though it lags behind the privatization of military services, the privatization of intelligence has expanded dramatically with the growth in intelligence activities following the 11 September 2001 attacks on the United States. In a report published three days after those attacks, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence encouraged a ‘symbiotic relationship between the Intelligence Community and the private sector’. In addition to dollars spent – dominated by large items such as spy satellites – this has seen an important increase in the proportion of personnel working on contract. More than 70 per cent of the Pentagon’s Counterintelligence Field Activity (CIFA) unit is staffed by contractors, known as ‘green badgers’, who also represent the majority of personnel in the DIA, the CIA’s National Clandestine Service, and the National Counterterrorism Center. At the CIA’s station in Islamabad contractors reportedly outnumber government employees three to one.”

Disclosing “Top Secret” confidential items taint military personnel as well as government agencies. Names such as Jonathan Pollard, John Walker, Jr., Robert Hanssen and Aldrich Ames haunt anyone deeply concerned about authentic national security.

What is often missed with all the trumped up hysteria about Russian infiltration in the 2016 Presidential election is that the CIA pioneered the techniques of gaming election results and overthrowing obstinate regimes.

Real intelligence starts with securing our defenses, not maintaining or expanding a caustic empire. Loyal American citizens do not pledge allegiance to the CIA. Gen. William “Wild Bill” Donovan is rolling in his grave if he could see what his OSS has morphed into as the Central Intelligence Agency.

Lynching Free Speech: The Intolerant State of America

Lynching Free Speech: The Intolerant State of America | freedom-of-speech-censorship | Civil Rights Free Speech Government Government Control Sleuth Journal Special Interests US News

By: John W. Whitehead, The Rutherford Institute

“What are the defenders of free speech to do? The sad fact is that this fundamental freedom is on its heels across America. Politicians of both parties want to use the power of government to silence their foes. Some in the university community seek to drive it from their campuses. And an entire generation of Americans is being taught that free speech should be curtailed as soon as it makes someone else feel uncomfortable. On the current trajectory, our nation’s dynamic marketplace of ideas will soon be replaced by either disengaged intellectual silos or even a stagnant ideological conformity. Few things would be so disastrous for our nation and the well-being of our citizenry.”—William Ruger, “Free Speech Is Central to Our Dignity as Humans

My hometown of Charlottesville, Va., has become the latest poster child in a heated war of words—and actions—over racism, “sanitizing history,” extremism (both right and left), political correctness, hate speech, partisan politics, and a growing fear that violent words will end in violent actions.

In Charlottesville, as in so many parts of the country right now, the conflict is over how to reconcile the nation’s checkered past, particularly as it relates to slavery, with the present need to sanitize the environment of anything—words and images—that might cause offense, especially if it’s a Confederate flag or monument.

In Charlottesville, that fear of offense prompted the City Council to get rid of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee that has graced one of its public parks for 82 years. In doing so, they have attracted the unwanted attention of the Ku Klux Klan.

Yale University actually went so far as to change the name of one of its residential colleges, which was named after John C. Calhoun, the nation’s seventh vice president, a secretary of state, secretary of war, senator and Yale alum who supported slavery.

New Orleans ran up a $2 million tab in its efforts to remove its four Confederate monuments, with the majority of the funds being used for security to police the ensuing protests and demonstrations.

With more than 1,000 Confederate monuments in 31 states (in public parks, courthouse squares and state capitols), not to mention Confederate battle flags on display in military cemeteries, and countless more buildings and parks named after historic figures who were slaveholders, this isn’t an issue that is going away anytime soon, no matter how much we ignore it, shout over it, criminalize it, legislate it, adjudicate or police it.

The temperature is rising all across the nation, and not just over this Confederate issue.

The “winter of our discontent” has given way to an overheated, sweltering summer in which shouting matches are skating dangerously close to becoming physical altercations.

As journalist Dahlia Lithwick writes for Slate, “These days, people who used to feel free to shout and threaten are emboldened to punch, body-slam, and stab. It is a short hop, we are learning, from ‘words can never hurt us’ to actual sticks and stones and the attendant breaking of bones. That is what has become of free speech in this country.”

Here’s the thing: if Americans don’t learn how to get along—at the very least, agreeing to disagree and respecting each other’s right to subscribe to beliefs and opinions that may be offensive, hateful, intolerant or merely different—then we’re going to soon find that we have no rights whatsoever (to speak, assemble, agree, disagree, protest, opt in, opt out, or forge our own paths as individuals).

The government will lock down the nation at the slightest provocation.

It is ready, willing and able to impose martial law within 24 hours.

Indeed, the government has been anticipating and preparing for civil unrest for years now, as evidenced by the build-up of guns and tanks and militarized police and military training drills and threat assessments and extremism reports and surveillance systems and private prisons.

Connect the dots, people.

The government doesn’t care about who you voted for in the presidential election or whether you think the Civil War was fought over states’ rights versus slavery. It doesn’t care about your race or gender or religion or sexual orientation.

When the police state cracks down, it will not discriminate.

We’ll all be muzzled together.

We’ll all be jailed together.

We’ll all be viewed as a collective enemy to be catalogued, conquered and caged.

Thus, the last thing we need to do is play into the government’s hands by turning on one another, turning in one another, and giving the government’s standing army an excuse to take over.

The police state could not ask for a better citizenry than one that carries out its own censorship, spying and policing.

This is how you turn a nation of free people into extensions of the omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent police state, and in the process turn a citizenry against each other. It’s a brilliant ploy, with the added bonus that while the citizenry remains focused on and distrustful of each other, they’re incapable of presenting a united front against the threats posed by the government and its cabal of Constitution-destroying agencies and corporate partners.

Unfortunately, we have already become a nation of snowflakes, snitches and book burners: a legalistic, intolerant, elitist, squealing bystander nation eager to report fellow citizens to the police for the slightest offense.

Mind you, once the police are called in, with their ramped-up protocols, battlefield mindset, militarized weapons, uniforms and equipment, and war zone tactics, it’s a process that is near impossible to turn back and one that too often ends in tragedy for all those involved.

So how do we stop this train from barreling down the tracks past the police state and straight into martial law?

Let’s start with a little more patience, a lot more tolerance and a civics lesson on the First Amendment.

As my good friend Nat Hentoff, that inveterate champion of the First Amendment, once observed, “The quintessential difference between a free nation, as we profess to be, and a totalitarian state, is that here everyone, including a foe of democracy, has the right to speak his mind.”

What this means is opening the door to more speech not less, even if that speech is offensive to some.

Understanding that freedom for those in the unpopular minority constitutes the ultimate tolerance in a free society, James Madison, the author of the Bill of Rights, fought for a First Amendment that protected the “minority” against the majority, ensuring that even in the face of overwhelming pressure, a minority of one—even one who espouses distasteful viewpoints—would still have the right to speak freely, pray freely, assemble freely, challenge the government freely, and broadcast his views in the press freely.

We haven’t done ourselves—or the nation—any favors by becoming so fearfully polite, careful to avoid offense, and largely unwilling to be labeled intolerant, hateful or closed-minded that we’ve eliminated words, phrases and symbols from public discourse.

The result is a nation where no one really says what they really think anymore, at least if it runs counter to the prevailing views. Intolerance is the new scarlet letter of our day, a badge to be worn in shame and humiliation, deserving of society’s fear, loathing and utter banishment from society.

For those who dare to voice an opinion that runs counter to the accepted norms, retribution is swift: they are shamed, shouted down, silenced, censored, fired, cast out and generally relegated to the dust heap of ignorant, mean-spirited bullies who are guilty of various “word crimes.”

We have entered a new age where, as commentator Mark Steyn notes, “we have to tiptoe around on ever thinner eggshells” and “the forces of ‘tolerance’ are intolerant of anything less than full-blown celebratory approval.”

In such a climate of intolerance, there can be no freedom speech, expression or thought.

We have become a nation of snowflakes.

We have allowed our fears—fear for our safety, fear of each other, fear of being labeled racist or hateful or prejudiced, etc.—to trump our freedom of speech and muzzle us far more effectively than any government edict could. Ultimately the war on free speech—and that’s exactly what it is: a war being waged by Americans against other Americans—is a war that is driven by fear.

By bottling up dissent, we have created a pressure cooker of stifled misery and discontent that is now bubbling over and fomenting even more hate, distrust and paranoia among portions of the populace.

The First Amendment is a steam valve. It allows people to speak their minds, air their grievances and contribute to a larger dialogue that hopefully results in a more just world.

When there is no steam valve to release the pressure, frustration builds, anger grows and people become more volatile and desperate to force a conversation.

The problem as I see it is that we’ve allowed ourselves to be persuaded that we need someone else to think and speak for us. The result is a society in which we’ve stopped debating among ourselves, stopped thinking for ourselves, and stopped believing that we can fix our own problems and resolve our own differences.

Not only has free speech become a “politically incorrect” four-letter word—profane, obscene, uncouth, not to be uttered in so-called public places—but in more and more cases, the government deems free speech to be downright dangerous and in some instances illegal.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, the U.S. government has become particularly intolerant of speech that challenges the government’s power, reveals the government’s corruption, exposes the government’s lies, and encourages the citizenry to push back against the government’s many injustices. Indeed, there is a long and growing list of the kinds of speech that the government considers dangerous enough to red flag and subject to censorship, surveillance, investigation and prosecution: hate speech, bullying speech, intolerant speech, conspiratorial speech, treasonous speech, threatening speech, incendiary speech, inflammatory speech, radical speech, anti-government speech, right-wing speech, extremist speech, etc.

The powers-that-be understand that if the government can control speech, it controls thought and, in turn, it can control the minds of the citizenry. In fact, some of this past century’s greatest dystopian authors warned of this very danger.

In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, reading is banned and books are burned in order to suppress dissenting ideas, while televised entertainment is used to anesthetize the populace and render them easily pacified, distracted and controlled.

In Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, serious literature, scientific thinking and experimentation are banned as subversive, while critical thinking is discouraged through the use of conditioning, social taboos and inferior education. Likewise, expressions of individuality, independence and morality are viewed as vulgar and abnormal.

In George Orwell’s 1984, Big Brother does away with all undesirable and unnecessary words and meanings, even going so far as to routinely rewrite history and punish “thoughtcrimes.”

And in almost every episode of Twilight Zone, Rod Serling urged viewers to unlock their minds and free themselves of prejudice, hate, violence and fear. “We’re developing a new citizenry,” Serling declared. “One that will be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but won’t be able to think.”

It’s time to start thinking for ourselves again.

It’s time to start talking to each other. It’s time to start listening more and shouting less.

Most of all, it’s time to start acting like people who will choose dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

As Dahlia Lithwick concluded for Slate:

To guarantee an escape from conflict, from violence, requires censorship. To have free speech in this moment, when the stakes are so high, is to live with fear. This is not an easy thing to confront—or to accept… Conversation might still be our best chance of getting out of this mess. Free speech is just free speech. It takes actual humans making the effort to talk to each other to transform speech into something more vital and more valuable. Conversations don’t always work. They may sometimes go wrong—horribly, terribly wrong… The First Amendment will never be able to protect us from horrible words and horrific acts. It does guarantee that we’ll keep talking.
